About This Event

As AI systems take on more execution, decisions can reach further before their consequences are visible. In this Melbourne session, product design leader Peter Barber will explore the ‘Human Margin’: the distance between those making a decision and those who live with its outcome.

What the talk will cover

A practical framework for accountability in agentic systems, including:

  • what may be delegated to machines
  • what needs to remain observable
  • when human intervention is needed
  • who is accountable after a system acts

The session will consider questions of trust, responsibility and design in high-consequence products.

Speaker

Peter Barber is a Product Design Leader at Airwallex, working across identity, authentication and security. He has previously led global design teams at Block across Cash App and Afterpay, and was the founding product and design leader at Delphos Labs.

About the series

The Melbourne Connect AI Community of Practice brings together partners, researchers, startups and the broader innovation ecosystem to discuss how emerging technologies are changing organisational work, and to share experiences across sectors.
