About This Event

Practise navigating difficult workplace conversations in this full-day Sydney workshop led by Matías Avaca and Susan Zheng. Using applied improv and DiSC behavioural styles, you’ll experiment with different ways to respond when there is pressure, disagreement or a power dynamic at play.

What you’ll work on

  • Recognising power dynamics and responding more strategically
  • Communicating what you need while understanding others’ priorities
  • Adapting to differences in communication style, pace and priorities
  • Exploring the effect of voice, body language and status
  • Spotting misunderstandings early and trying approaches to prevent escalation

How the day works

Expect short exercises, paired conversations and realistic workplace scenarios. You’ll have opportunities to replay moments, swap perspectives and adjust your words, body language or approach. You’re welcome to bring a conversation or situation you find challenging.

No theatre or improv experience is needed.

Who it’s for

Leaders, managers, professionals, facilitators, coaches and others who want to communicate and negotiate more effectively across different working styles. Scenarios may include managing up or down, negotiating responsibilities, setting boundaries, working with clients or vendors, and competing priorities.

Facilitators

Matías Avaca is a senior engineering manager and applied improv facilitator. Susan Zheng is a DiSC Advanced Accredited Consultant and applied improv facilitator.
