About This Event
Open-weight models are reshaping how AI startups choose, run and differentiate their technology. This Melbourne discussion explores the practical trade-offs: whether to own infrastructure or rent it, the cost of inference, data control, and where a defensible advantage may sit as models become more widely available.
What to expect
A panel of founders building with open-weight models will share lessons from selecting and operating models, and from building businesses around them. Alan Tsen, General Manager of Cremorne Digital Hub, will moderate. Panellists are yet to be announced.
Topics on the agenda
- The shift from closed frontier models to open-weight models
- Owning your stack versus renting access
- Fine-tuning and proprietary data
- Inference costs, control, and deployment trade-offs
- Sovereign and on-prem deployment
- Building and defending an AI company when models become commoditised
Who it’s for
Melbourne founders, builders and engineers interested in the operational and business implications of open-weight AI models. The session includes an open Q&A and drinks afterwards.
Hosted by Cremorne Digital Hub in partnership with NVIDIA. You can attend the evening session on its own or arrive after the afternoon Nemotron workshop.
