About This Event
Explore what it takes to move research beyond academia at this practical, two-day bootcamp for eligible UNSW participants in Sydney. Working in interdisciplinary groups, participants will examine research opportunities, real-world problems and potential pathways towards adoption, funding or use.
Who can attend
This program is open only to UNSW HDR students, researchers and staff with an interest in research translation, entrepreneurship, commercialisation or interdisciplinary collaboration.
What you’ll work on
Teams will tackle emerging research opportunities through a time-limited challenge, then develop and pitch a recommendation to a panel. Topics include:
- Framing technical ideas for non-specialist audiences
- Identifying customers, users, beneficiaries and decision-makers
- Assessing problems, market evidence and stakeholder needs
- Comparing partnerships, licensing and new-venture pathways
- Developing a high-level business case and project plan
- Making and defending decisions with incomplete information
No previous business, entrepreneurship or commercialisation experience is required.
Attendance and registration
Attendance is required on 30 October, 10am–4pm, plus either 4 November or 5 November, 10am–4pm. Registration is an expression of interest, not confirmation of a place. Participants will receive an email calendar invitation if their spot is confirmed.
